| Project Name: | Markham Celebrates Culture - Varley Portrait into the Light |
| Project Description: | The Varley Art Gallery of Markham is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a major exhibition entitled "Varley Portraits: Into the Light" that will bring together 87 Varley portraits, within a larger city-wide cultural celebration entitled "Markham Celebrates Culture". Two interactive elements of the exhibition -- "Drawing the Human Face" and a Childrens Activity corner will make this exhibition accessible to visitors of all ages. In addition, the Gallery will develop school programs and offer family programming every weekend with art activities. The exhibition will bring most of the community together around the gallery's anniversary as an essential element of the "Markham Celebrates Culture" campaign, complimenting all of the summer events. Other initiatives for the project include the opening of the McKay Arts Centre Gardens; and special event programming packages during the Canadian Open. |
