interAction: New Media Exhibition
This application is for a new exhibit entitled “interAction: New Media Exhibition”, that will take place at THEMUSEUM, the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and Carl Zehr Square in Kitchener-Waterloo from January 2 to March 1, 2018. Co-curated by by Alain Thibault and Jane Tingley, the new media exhibit will feature 14 new media artworks and a selection of games created by Quebecois, Indigenous, Canadian, European and American artists. Modelled after the Elektra Festival and La Biennale international d’art numérique in Montreal (organized by Alain Thibault), the exhibition will explore contemporary interactive new media art, and the relationship between gaming and art. Showcasing local, national, and global artists and perspectives, the works will include interactive installations that use sound, wind, light, or colour, and ‘art games’. In addition to the 14 main pieces, the exhibition will include: (i) workshops created by artists and game developers; (ii) a gaming lounge; (iii) a speakers series; and (iv) a catalogue including documentation of the show, a collection of essays, and commentary. Partners include CAFKA, the City of Kitchener, the Critical Media Lab (University of Waterloo- Kitchener location) and the Games Institute (University of Waterloo-Waterloo location).
