Rediscover Ontario this August!
This summer we are proud to support a long list of events, performances, activations and exhibits that have and continue to reopen throughout the province of Ontario. From outdoor theatre performances to public art installations there is lots to rediscover throughout the province for individuals and families.It has been a joy for us to see so many events we have greatly missed reopen this July. August will be no less exciting!

In addition to festivals and events, many of our renowned galleries and indoor art spaces are also reopening to welcome visitors after a long year of closures. Their new and permanent exhibits are worth checking out!

Join us this August to rediscover all the cultural tourism our province has to offer!

McMichael Art Gallery Reopening
On July 21 the McMichael Canadian Art Collection reopened its doors to visitors with new and ongoing exhibitions. These include Group of Seven Centenary Programming supported by OCAF!

Enjoy the many exhibits in the gallery or the beautiful grounds surrounding this venerable Canadian art institution!

A Like Vision: The Group of Seven at 100 is still on and open to the public. In commemoration of the centenary of their first exhibition, over 280 of the Group’s finest pieces from the permanent collection are on display.

Science North Reopening
Science North has reopened and is welcoming visitors for indoor exhibitions and outdoor activities. The following activities are open to the public:

  • New special exhibition: Indigenous Ingenuity
  • Vale Cavern
  • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors
  • Ready, Set, Move!
  • Discovery Theatre
  • Outdoor activities

OCAF is proud to support the Indigenous Ingenuity exhibition at Science North!

Indigenous peoples from North America have long demonstrated a great sense of ingenuity, using nature as inspiration. The world we know today was in part fashioned by their innovations and approaches to science. Designed around an interactive quest, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the innovative processes that give rise to Indigenous knowledge by:

  • OBSERVING nature as a source of inspiration
  • LISTENING to bearers of knowledge
  • EXPERIMENTING with scientific principles
  • SHARING acquired knowledge by passing it on to others

Talk is Free Theatre
Experience boundary-pushing programming outdoors and in-person this summer with Talk is Free Theatre’s Bees in the Bush Festival! 

Staged in multiple outdoor locations across Barrie and surrounding area, the Festival boasts a line-up of 12 unique experiences that have drawn major attention.

Paired with the company’s new free admission policy, over 50 of the Festival’s 100 performances have been filled in under 24 hours.

SummerWorks 30th Anniversary
SummerWorks Festival 2021 offers free, public-facing programming across multiple platforms throughout the month of August.

Starting August 1, each day will offer new ways of encountering artists and their work, either in person or through digital formats. Through the month, you will be invited to witness online public sharings, engage with artists through social media, as well as explorations of public access to artistic process, from performance in storefront windows to communal walks through the park.

With a desire to invest in the artists shaping the future, this year’s Festival focuses on work in development, nurturing artistic exploration as we begin the process of rebuilding.
