Projet Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work 1932-1945
Description du projet

This application is for “Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932-1945)” taking place September 11 to December 7, 2024, in the main gallery of The Image Centre in Toronto (free of charge to the public) The exhibition explores one of the most intense and productive chapters in the professional life of famed photographer Lee Miller and will be accompanied by an extensive public outreach program that meaningfully engages adult and youth audiences from diverse backgrounds, with the goal of generating new thinking about art, culture, and gender.

Curated by Dr. Gaëlle Morel, who collaborated with Miller’s family, the exhibition promises to illuminate previously untold stories about one of photography’s most captivating and yet under-appreciated woman practitioners. Key events will include curator-led talks (potentially including a conversation with the artist’s family), public and private tours, and participatory workshops and tours for young people through their ‘Youth in Focus’ program. The IC exhibitions and outreach team is currently developing the schedule and specifics for ancillary events, to be finalized in June 2024 (the curatorial team is in discussions with Antony Penrose, son of the artist, and pending TIFF and other commitments, Kate Winslet herself might be amenable to participating in an event alongside Antony.
