The Ottawa Jazz Festival aims to advance the appreciation and knowledge of all music, in particular jazz, by programming music that richly underscores the continuing creativity and diversity of the artists and the music itself. The Festival is an annual multi-day, multi venue event (and includes year round activity) celebrating the diversity of the artists to be found in the jazz milieu and other genres that offer creative connectedness. The Festival also aims to pursue education objectives that enrich and empower the young jazz players in our community and across Canada.

The Ottawa Jazz Festival Inc. (OJF) was founded in 1980 to advance the appreciation and knowledge of all music, in particular jazz, by promoting festival performances and workshops with renowned and emerging artists. It has developed into a 10-day musical spectacle with performances at six venues in the National Capital Region. Since 2016 the Festival has used Confederation Park as its main venue.

This application is for the “Ottawa Jazz Festival 45th Anniversary”, taking place June 20th to 29th, 2025 at various venues including Confederation Park, City Hall’s Marion Dewar Plaza, and the National Arts Center’s Bab Asper Theatre. Programming details include:

(1) Street closure of Laurier Avenue on the first weekend of the Festival (June 20 - 22, 2025) connecting the festival’s two main sites. Programming will be done in collaboration with Axe Worldfest, Ottawa Swing Dance Society, Ottawa Rhythm Initiative, Ottawa Music Industry Coalition; food trucks; and visual art installations in collaboration with Ottawa Art Gallery, Carleton University, and University of Ottawa;

(3) Expanded footprint and programming at Marion Dewar Plaza (programming TBD).

Confirmed main stage artists include: Jon Batiste, Kronos Quartet, Tanya Tagaq, Mavis Staples, Jazz at Lincoln Centre Orchestra feat. Wynton Marsalis, Thundercat, Branford Marsalis Quartet, and Femi Kuti
