Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is an annual event in May devoted to celebrating, and fostering the art and profession of photography through showcasing well over 1500 Canadian and international artists exhibiting at more than 175 venues throughout the Greater Toronto Area, As a leading proponent of photography, the Festival increases exposure and recognition for local, Canadian and international artists and is committed to advancing knowledge, creativity and innovation in photography

Projet CONTACT Photography Festival 29th Edition - New Programs & Initiatives
Description du projet

This application is for “CONTACT Photography Festival 29th Edition - New Programs & Initiatives”, taking place May 1 to May 31, 2025. In 2025, the Festival will expand to include 10 new sites for photo/lens-based works and will collaborate with a diverse range of programming partners both new and ongoing across greater Toronto to celebrate photography. Special programming enhancements and new initiatives include:

(1) New sites for the “Public Art Project” at: (i) billboards on Dufferin Street (Kiri Dalena, “Erased Slogans & Birds of Prey”, May 1 – 31); (ii) Toronto and Vancouver billboards on Dupont Street (Buck Ellison, “Still Life”, April 9 – May 31); (iii) billboards on College Street (“Kablusiak” May 1 – 31); (iv) 460 King Street (Anu Kumar, “Remnants of Ritual” May 1 – June 15); (v) Waterfront Toronto/Port Lands (new site in development); (vi) Evergreen Brick Works (new site in development); (vii) The Bentway (new site in development); (viii) Aga Khan Park (Glenn McArthur “Muqarnas: Form and Light” dates TBD);

(2) The Photobook Lab/CONTACT Gallery, international exhibitions (new partnerships), CONTACT Gallery, May 1 – June 29; The Lab will expand in 2025 to partner with three international organizations to present exhibitions, talks and educational events in collaboration with Aperture Foundation (New York,) Bound Narratives (Montreal, Lebanon) and The Sustainable Photobook Publishing (SPP) network.

(3) Traveling Exhibition, a new partnership with Foundation Carmignac (FR)

No Woman's Land: An Intimate Look Into The Battle For Women’s Rights In Afghanistan, May – July (TBD);

(5) 2025 new initiatives: (i) “Steidl Canadian Book Prize”, new partnership with Steidl (DE) and TMU, Event and announcement, May 2025 (TBD); (ii) “SUSTENANCE”, new artist mentorship residency; (iii) “CONSTELLATION”, new public art guest curator program.
